Brihadeeswarar Temple.

I finally got to visit the big temple (after seeing many signs on street for a week). This ancient temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Great Living Chola Temples”.

The main entrance to the temple. Everyone has to take their shoes off before going inside.

The inner area of the temple. A statue of Nandi (Shiva’s bull) stands in the middle of the courtyard (seemed under renovation right now).

Inside the temple, you put both of your hands over a fire and use your right ring finger to put a dot of sacred ash on your forehead  to worship Shiva.

Inside is very peaceful and somehow quiet despite of the busy street outside.

A small quad on this side of the temple is a great place to hang out. We stayed here until nightfall.
